Position Summary
We are seeking a visionary and data-driven Director of Sustainability—Circular Economy to lead our packaging sustainability strategy across Africa. Reporting to the Senior Director of Sustainability, Africa, this role is central to advancing our mission toward a circular economy, particularly in plastic packaging recovery and recycling. You’ll apply strong analytical, auditing, and reporting expertise, alongside innovative thinking and strategic leadership, to drive impactful, large-scale sustainability programs.
This position requires a results-oriented individual with a structured approach and the agility to operate in high-paced environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Sustainability Reporting: Lead data analysis, internal auditing, and storytelling through reporting to showcase Coca-Cola Africa’s sustainability journey.
- Industry Engagement: Stay updated on trends, regulatory changes, and technological advances in sustainability to proactively influence our strategies.
- Stakeholder Relations: Cultivate strong partnerships with internal departments, government agencies, NGOs, and external stakeholders to co-develop impactful sustainability initiatives.
- Strategic Program Leadership: Align local strategies with Coca-Cola’s global sustainability goals, especially around packaging collection and recycling.
- Innovation and Execution: Spearhead innovative sustainability programs, develop sophisticated models, and ensure integration into business processes to promote operational transformation.
Qualifications
Education:
- A master’s degree in business, engineering, sustainability management, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- An MBA or equivalent advanced degree in a business-related discipline is an advantage.
- Professional certifications such as ISSP, IEMA, PMP, or Certified Sustainability Professional are highly preferred.
- Ongoing professional development in circular economy and sustainable innovation is encouraged.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years in senior sustainability leadership roles with a successful history of delivering large-scale, impact-driven programs.
- Strong track record in cross-sector partnerships (government, NGOs, private sector, impact investors).
- Proficiency in developing and managing data tools and reporting systems for sustainability.
- Prior experience with packaging collection systems, particularly plastics, is highly desirable.
- Background in multinational corporations focused on circular economy initiatives is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
- A thorough comprehension of sustainable frameworks combined with strategic thinking
- Expertise in regulatory compliance, sustainability software, and performance tracking tools
- Expertise with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Power BI is beneficial
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities
- Change management and innovation leadership capabilities
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Financial acumen, including budgeting and negotiations
