About the Role
The Southern, West, and Central Africa (SWC) business unit covers more than 14 countries, with statutory presence in 7, including 2 listed companies (Ghana and Seychelles) and 1 joint venture (Angola). It manages manufacturing in four countries and partnerships to distribute the Diageo portfolio in about 35 Sub-Saharan markets.
The region boasts a full TBA portfolio—beer, RTDs, local and international spirits, and top-end luxury brands—serving diverse consumer bases across languages, economies, and consumption behaviors. With Africa’s vibrant LPA-34 population, SWC presents significant opportunities despite its volatility and competitive landscape.
Distributor partnerships, creative collaborations, and strategic portfolio, production, logistics, and route-to-market decisions are key growth drivers. With great potential for growth into new markets, categories, and channels, SWC is essential to Diageo Africa’s success.
Purpose of the Role
The Consumer Planning team provides an end-to-end perspective on growth opportunities in culture, consumer behavior, and shopper trends, inspiring marketing strategies that drive purchases across all channels.
The Connections Planning Manager will transform how Diageo brands engage with consumers through the Connections Planning Model, delivering world-class, data-driven connection plans that integrate media, creativity, and consumer touchpoints seamlessly.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the connections planning process with brand teams and media agencies, ensuring fully integrated plans with no consumer journey “dead ends.”
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders to influence media investment decisions.
- Present quarterly updates to Marketing Leadership on the ongoing assessment and enhancement of connection plans for all strategic brands.
- Ensure smart use of data and insights to anticipate trends, assess business challenges, and inform campaign strategies.
- Build organizational capability and influence to drive effective media strategies that grow categories and brands.
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in integrated media or connections planning, with strong expertise in social and digital media.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to stay ahead of competitor, consumer, and industry trends.
- Proven ability to thrive in ambiguity, showing leadership and initiative.
- Strong influencing and relationship management skills across all organizational levels and agency partners.
- Demonstrated success in media optimization, testing, and performance improvement.
