Role Summary

Reporting to the Health Specialist HSS and under the overall guidance of the HSS Manager, the Health Officer (Supply & Logistics) will provide professional, technical, operational, and administrative support throughout UNICEF’s health programs. This role focuses on the effective delivery of essential medicines and supplies and supports the logistics component of health systems strengthening initiatives in Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

The officer will support child survival and wellbeing programs under the health systems strengthening portfolio through the following:

  • Conduct and update situation analyses to design and manage supply chain and logistics packages for health programs. Provide research and reports on health commodity value chains and trends, including equity analyses, to inform senior management.

  • Support the formulation of sectoral program goals, strategies, and results-based planning by analyzing health needs and recommending priority interventions.

  • Assist in implementing primary health care supply systems strengthening policies, collaborating with government departments and internal health and supply teams.

  • Coordinate with program and supply sections to ensure timely procurement, shipment, and last-mile delivery of essential life-saving health supplies, with emphasis on humanitarian aid.

  • Maintain and regularly update procurement and supply distribution plans, track supplies and commodities delivered, and monitor the supply pipeline, providing alerts when action is required.

  • Provide technical and operational support across program stages, including executing program transactions, preparing documentation, complying with organizational processes, and supporting results-based planning and monitoring.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences is required.

  • Additional qualifications in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Contract/Commercial Law, International Development, Health, or related social sciences are an advantage.

  • Understanding of development and humanitarian programs is desirable.

  • Emergency response experience is an advantage.

  • Experience in health supply chain management is highly valued.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in supply, logistics, procurement, contracting, administration, or related technical fields at national or international levels.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to manage and monitor financial and material resources effectively.

  • Capacity to contribute to policy and strategy formulation.

  • Knowledge of modern supply chain management practices and technologies.

  • Understanding of supply chain processes from needs assessment to planning, procurement, logistics, delivery, and monitoring.

  • Fluency in English; knowledge of other UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) or local languages is an advantage.

  • Ability to supervise teams and work effectively in multicultural settings.

  • Adaptable, fast learner, resilient under change and ambiguity.
