Job Title: Senior Business Intelligence Engineer
Location: Lagos
About the Role
We are at a key turning point where advancing our data capabilities is critical. Rather than simply supplying departments with data, we aim to apply more advanced techniques to unlock the full value of our extensive datasets. We gather hundreds of thousands of data points daily across our programs—from lesson interactions to student assessments—but we’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible with this information.
Technically, this involves moving away from batch ETL processing and data warehousing toward real-time, event-driven pipelines and a decentralized data architecture. Organizationally, it requires embedding BI skills into delivery teams instead of maintaining a separate BI department. It also involves rethinking how data is shared with users—offering more actionable, dynamic interfaces.
The Senior Engineer will play a key role in this transformation—contributing both to system design and team development. This position reports to the Business Intelligence Lead and will frequently be part of cross-functional teams delivering the next generation of data solutions.
What You Will Do
- Design and implement real-time, event-driven data pipelines to clean, enrich, and aggregate various data sets as part of a distributed software engineering team
- Monitor data infrastructure and resolve issues to ensure data insights remain highly available
- Work with stakeholders to gather requirements, create solutions, and support rollout processes
- Deploy pipelines using continuous delivery principles
- Enhance scalability, reliability, accuracy, and efficiency of the current data platform
- Provide guidance and mentorship to other BI team members
What You Should Have
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in business intelligence, data engineering, and advanced analytics
- Proficiency in relational databases, ETL processes, and reporting tools (preferably Microsoft stack: SQL Server 2016/2019, SSIS, SSRS)
- Solid understanding of warehouse design and data modeling (e.g., star and snowflake schemas)
- Experience or interest in agile, results-oriented development environments
- Basic database administration knowledge
- At least 2 years of enterprise experience building data pipelines with Apache Spark and Python (future platform)
- Experience with RabbitMQ or Kafka is a plus
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases and data lakes
- Proficiency in version control and CI/CD tools
