Job Summary

As a Risk Officer, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with our lending activities. You will play a key role in safeguarding the company’s loan portfolio, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements, and promoting a risk-aware culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct risk assessments on loan applications and recommend approvals or rejections based on creditworthiness.
  • Monitor the loan portfolio to detect early warning signs of default or exposure.
  • Develop and implement risk control frameworks, credit policies, and internal procedures.
  • Analyze borrower behavior, repayment trends, and high-risk segments to guide credit strategies.
  • Investigate and prevent fraud by validating borrower documentation and transactions.
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, including KYC, AML, and credit bureau reporting.
  • Collaborate with recovery and collections teams to assess and manage delinquent accounts.
  • Liaise with sales and field agents to ensure adherence to credit risk standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare regular risk reports for management.
  • Lead or participate in risk training programs for internal teams.
  • Promote a culture of compliance, accountability, and responsible lending practices.

 

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a credit risk or lending operations role, preferably in microfinance, fintech, or banking.
  • Sound understanding of credit analysis, risk controls, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and reporting tools; experience with loan management software is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Certification in Risk Management or Credit Analysis (e.g., CRM, FRM) is an advantage.
