Job Title: Lead Data Analyst

Job Purpose/Mission

As part of our Global Data team spanning Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, and Germany, the Lead Data Analyst will report to the Head of Data and collaborate with analysts and strategists across our nine African markets. You’ll also work closely with global product managers, data scientists, engineers, UX designers, and software developers.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to impactful projects, helping to expand financial services and improve the solar kit experience for millions of off-grid customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to deliver actionable insights for leadership and teams in the field.
  • Support and train market analysts on using the data lake, dashboard creation, and leveraging existing reports effectively.
  • Act as a liaison between analysts and the data team to translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Contribute to the design and optimization of data storage and reporting pipelines to enhance readability and performance.
  • Lead technical training sessions (e.g., advanced SQL) for 50+ analysts and data users across multiple markets.
  • Help prioritize data team projects based on business impact and user feedback.
  • Investigate data integrity issues and collaborate with teams to resolve discrepancies.
  • Participate in field visits to understand data collection processes and recommend improvements.

Knowledge and Skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis or a similar role.
  • Proficient in SQL and comfortable writing complex queries.
  • A solid foundation in data visualization using programs like Tableau and Power BI.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and a critical approach to data validation.
  • Proven ability to deliver strategic analysis that influences decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to engage with diverse teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Willingness to spend time in the field to improve data quality and processes.
  • Collaborative spirit, adaptability, and enthusiasm for impactful work.

Languages:

  • English (required).
  • French, Portuguese, or Swahili (a plus).

Technical Skills:

  • Data visualization tools: Tableau, Power BI, and Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Coding and ETL: Python, R.
  • AWS data storage tools: RDS, Redshift, and S3.
  • Statistical analysis with Python (e.g., SciPy, Stats) or R.
  • Agile collaboration tools: JIRA for sprints and scrums.
