The Lekan Bakare Foundation (LBF) is a purpose-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainability, social impact, and youth empowerment across Nigeria and globally. LBF implements programs in environmental conservation, climate action, public health, leadership development, and social advocacy. In particular, LBF leads initiatives under SDG 14 – Life Below Water, focusing on building capacity for marine ecosystem conservation, protecting marine life, and promoting sustainable ocean management in Nigeria through education, community engagement, and strategic partnerships.

 

Job Title: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

 

Job roles/responsibilities

• The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the effective delivery of the Foundation’s mission and programs.
• The role oversees day-to-day operations, supports program implementation, strengthens internal systems, and works closely with the Board, executive leadership, and department heads to drive organizational growth and impact.
• The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, organizational management, and stakeholder engagement experience, with the ability to translate strategy into execution.

Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Social Sciences, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or related disciplines.
• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Management, Development Studies, Sustainability, or related fields preferred.
• Proven experience in senior leadership, program management, or organizational operations within the nonprofit, social impact, or development sector.
• Strong knowledge of strategic planning, partnership management, fundraising, and operational governance.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to drive organizational growth, align departments with strategic goals, and oversee multi-sector projects.
