Job Objective(s)
To manage the perfection process for securities and collaterals while drafting and reviewing legal contracts and documents not already in standard form.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Review and assess legal documentation from external parties to safeguard the bank’s interests before recommending approval or execution.
- Evaluate collateral materials provided by business units to confirm their validity and legal strength for use as security.
- Maintain custody and tracking of all legal agreements in which the bank is a party.
- Conduct periodic reviews of legal documentation for borrower accounts to ensure proper compliance and completeness.
- Draft and review legal paperwork for loans, including mortgages, commercial financing, and property-related transactions.
- Liaise with external counsel to arrange proper execution and registration of legal instruments such as mortgages and debentures, in line with applicable laws.
- Provide guidance on relevant government-imposed fees at federal, state, and local levels for documentation perfection.
- Verify that perfection tasks assigned to external solicitors are completed accurately, and recommend appropriate professional fees using the approved internal scale.
Requirements
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB)
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years in a legal role, preferably in banking or financial services
Knowledge:
- Advanced legal research and analytical thinking skills
- Strong verbal and written communication capabilities
- In-depth understanding of financial regulations and banking laws
- Competence in contract law and legal drafting
- Solid skills in document control, record keeping, and legal compliance
- Familiarity with human resource-related legal matters is a plus
