Job Title: Tax Manager, Africa
Location: Lagos
About You and the Role
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Tax Manager to oversee tax operations across our African locations, including Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Rwanda.
This role involves managing all tax activities (excluding payroll taxes) to ensure timely and accurate compliance.
You will work closely with our Accounting and Finance teams to ensure proper financial reporting and will lead tax-related audits and planning efforts.
The Tax Manager will report to the Head of Tax and also collaborate with the Africa Country Controller, serving as the primary tax contact for all African operations.
Your goal will be to maintain compliance while optimizing tax planning and increasing operational efficiency.
What You’ll Do
Key responsibilities include
- Prepare and file VAT and other indirect tax returns across African countries
- Complete monthly reconciliations of tax-related accounts
- Develop audit-ready tax documentation and workpapers
- Handle quarterly Corporate Income Tax (CIT) filings and payments
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure timely, accurate CIT return filings
- Provide tax training and advisory support to business teams
- Keep stakeholders, including the Head of Tax, updated on tax developments
- Manage relationships with external tax consultants
- Partner with the Head of Tax to execute tax planning strategies
- Strengthen internal tax-related controls
- Review annual income tax provisions
- Assist with transfer pricing analysis and calculations
- Monitor intercompany transactions for tax implications
- Maintain an updated tax filing calendar for African countries
- Support local finance teams during tax audits
- Work together with internal departments to address tax-related concerns.
- Offer support to operations outside Africa when necessary
Requirements
What we’re looking for:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- A professional certification or advanced degree is advantageous
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexibly, including outside standard hours, to coordinate with U.S.-based teams
- Proficiency in tools like Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace, particularly Excel or Google Sheets
- A minimum of 7 years of tax experience with multinational organizations operating in multiple African countries, or similar experience at an international accounting firm
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
