Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Location: Lekki, Lagos

Job Summary

The Kitchen Assistant supports the smooth daily operations of the hotel kitchen. Working closely with chefs and supervisors, this role focuses on maintaining cleanliness, assisting in food preparation, managing stock, and ensuring efficiency in the kitchen.

It also serves as an excellent entry-level role for anyone looking to start a career in the culinary industry while gaining practical skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

Maintaining Cleanliness and Hygiene

  • Clean and sanitize food prep areas, workstations, equipment, utensils, pots, and pans.
  • Sweep and mop floors, and ensure surfaces remain spotless.
  • Handle waste disposal responsibly and maintain tidy bins.
  • Comply with all food safety, hygiene, and hotel health regulations.

 

Food Preparation Assistance

  • Support chefs in basic tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and portioning.
  • Assist in assembling meals according to recipes and the chef’s instructions.
  • Prepare simple dishes such as salads, sandwiches, or garnishes when required.

 

Stock Management and Organization

  • Receive, inspect, and store food deliveries at correct temperatures.
  • Keep pantries, refrigerators, and freezers well-organized and tidy.
  • Track inventory levels and report shortages to supervisors.

 

Operational Support

  • Assist during busy service hours by fetching ingredients and equipment.
  • Operate kitchen tools (dishwashers, mixers, etc.) safely.
  • Help unload and transfer supplies from storage to the kitchen.
  • Maintain a stock of cleaning materials and kitchen essentials.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • OND qualification with 1–3 years of relevant experience.

 

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
  • Physical stamina for standing long hours and handling moderately heavy items.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail in cleaning, organization, and preparation.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
